Wayne Keene

Wayne Keene D.O.B 22/11/66

BORN – Poole, Dorset

OCCUPATION – Hairdresser

SPORT - Bodybuilder

Wayne has been training since the age of 21, he left the world of bodybuilding for 8 years and started retraining for the last 3 years.

Normally he will train 3-4 times a week but when competitions loom he trains everyday and sometimes twice a day.

Wayne will eat a minimum of 5 meals a day – ideally 7 with the objective being little and often – no easy task with a full time job owning your own salon.

His favourite breakfast includes ½ dozen egg whites, ½ - ¾ mug of porridge, a handful of raisins/mixed fruit and apple/pear.

Whisk eggs lightly like a meringue – put porridge and raisins in (add cinnamon to taste), grate apple or pear. Microwave for 2 minutes, stirring periodically, microwave for 1 minute, stir –it is now ready to eat.

To turn this recipe into a flapjack – blend in protein or whey protein flavour of choice e.g. 1 heaped scoop of high performance whey (24g of protein), keep stirring the mixture until it thickens – put on tray and smooth out flat. Cover with either a cloth or Kleenex (to absorb moisture).

These flapjacks are a mix of complex and simple carbohydrates – the oats and raisins are a natural source of simple sugars - good even energy source, egg whites are perfect complete protein plus a premium grade protein.

You can cut the flapjack into portions for a tasty treat/snack – remember there is 6g of protein per egg and 24g of protein per scoop (high performance whey).

It is great for mass building and for keeping calories up, an excellent source of carbs and protein and will taste great because you made it yourself.

I have been bought up from the age of ten in the surfing world, surfing everyday around my local beaches and others around the country and also abroad. Over the past few years I have made a name for myself in the surfing scene as I go to every competition possible and doing well.

At 16 I have been to every Junior European championships possible for my changing age category, I have been on the Welsh surf team for over 5 years and also surfing for Wales twice in the Home Nations. I am currently Welsh Under 16 Champion. I get good coverage for my sponsors by going to all the competitions and surfing as much as I can, and also getting coverage in the major surf magazines, mainly I have been in Wavelength and Pitpilot, last year I had a 4 page spread in wavelength after going on a surf trip with two of the UK’s top surfers Nathan Phillips and Greg Owen.

Not only is surfing important to me but also is going to the gym so I can work out and improve my cardiovascular fitness when there’s no waves or mostly after or before surfing. I take supplements with a high carbohydrate so that I can have a slow release of energy, which is need in both aspects of surfing as training. Energy I find is the key to performance and that pushes yourself to new limits.
